Support for Anna swells in Karnataka

Thousands of students skipped classes as they thronged Freedom Park in Bangalore in support of Anna Hazare, with former Supreme Court judge Santosh N Hegde, also joining the dharna. Hegde, a member of the joint committee on drafting the lokpal bill who till recently was Karnataka lokyukta, threw his weight behind the protest for the second day as slogans of Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai constantly rent the air.

"Anna is fighting for us. We are here to support him," several students said. Some had even taken permission from their Principal to be part of the protest.

Techies, NGOs and elderly were seen lending support as the crowds swelled, compared to Tuesday, with the protest appearing to gather further momentum.

Hegde reiterated that the government made a mistake by arresting Hazare and now wants to rectify it, adding, he is sure the social activist would again be taken into custody when he launches an indefinite fast once released, which would allow it to "legitimise" its move.

He opined that if the Government came out with "open heart and open soul (willingness to look into their version), we (the civil society members) are ready to discussions again".

Capt GR Gopinath, founder of low cost airline Air Deccan, said the fight is not against any political party; it's against the system.

He said the Government, instead of arresting Hazare, should have opted to discuss the provisions enunciated by Team Anna in Parliament, adding, it should now show "grace" as it's not too late.

What caught the attention at the protest here is the active participation of employees in the IT sector, who turned up in large numbers with a significant section of them networking with the help of social media like Facebook and Twitter.

"We want to do our bit for the country", said Praful Patil, 23, a software engineer from Wipro who came with six of his colleagues taking compensatory offs after working on holidays over the week-end.

"This is once in a life-time opportunity to end corruption. It's a golden opportunity. If we lose it, we will not get another chance in 100 years," he said.

Another techie working at HSBC, said that many people who thronged the site were driven by initiatives in social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

what is Jan Lokpal Bill?

The Jan Lokpal Bill (Hindi: जन लोकपाल विधेयक) (also referred to as the citizens' ombudsman bill) is a proposed anti-corruption law in India. It is designed to effectively deter corruption, redress grievances and protect whistle-blowers. If passed and made into law, the bill seeks to create an ombudsman called the Lokpal (translation: protector of the people) - an independent body similar to the Election Commission of India with the power to investigate politicians and bureaucrats without prior government permission. First introduced in 1969, the bill has failed to become law for nearly over four decades.

In 2011, Gandhian rights activist Anna Hazare started a Satyagraha movement by commencing a fast unto death in New Delhi to demand the passing of the bill. The movement attracted attention in the media, and thousands of supporters. Following Hazare's four day hunger strike, the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stated that the bill would be re-introduced in the 2011 monsoon session of the Parliament.

8. It's an entirely new thing right..?

   In 1972, the bill was proposed by then Law minister Mr. Shanti Bhushan. Since then it has been neglected by the politicians and some are trying to change the bill to suit thier theft (corruption).



7. Oh.. He is going on a hunger strike for that whole thing of passing a Bill ! How can that be possible in such    a short span of time?

The first thing he is asking for is: the government should come forward and announce that the bill is going to be passed.



Next, they make a joint committee to DRAFT the JAN LOKPAL BILL. 50% goverment participation and 50% public participation. Because you cant trust the government entirely for making such a bill which does not suit them.



8. Fine, What will happen when this bill is passed?

    A LokPal will be appointed at the centre. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the Election Commission of India. In each and every state, Lokayukta will be appointed. The job is to bring all alleged party to trial in case of corruptions within 1 year. Within 2 years, the guilty will be punished. Not like, Bofors scam or Bhopal Gas Tragedy case, that has been going for last 25 years without any result.

मनीष तिवारी को नहीं मिली अन्‍ना की माफी, 'भ्रष्‍टाचारी' कहने के लिए करेंगे मुकदमा

 नई दिल्ली. कांग्रेस प्रवक्ता मनीष तिवारी ने अन्ना हजारे के खिलाफ कथित भ्रष्टाचार के आरोपों को लेकर की गई अपनी टिप्पणी के लिए माफी मांगी है। लेकिन अन्ना हजारे के वकील मिलिंद पवार का कहना है कि अन्ना की ओर से अगले हफ्ते पुणे के कोर्ट में तिवारी के खिलाफ मानहानि का मुकदमा किया जाएगा।  

गुरुवार को संसद भवन के बाहर संवाददाताओं से बातचीत में तिवारी ने कहा, "राजनीतिक संवाद के दौरान कई बार ऐसी बातें कही जाती हैं, जिससे अनजाने में भावनाएं आहत हो जाती हैं, तकलीफ या पीड़ा होती है। मुझे मालूम है कि हाल की मेरी बातों ने अन्ना हजारे को पीड़ा पहुंचाई है। उनसे मैं कहना चाहूंगा कि मुझे इसका दु:ख और पश्चाताप है।"



तिवारी ने कहा कि वह अन्ना के स्वास्थ्य को लेकर व्यक्तिगत तौर पर चिंतित हैं। उन्होंने अन्ना से अनशन तोड़ने की अपील करते हुए कहा, "लोकतंत्र में बातचीत के लिए हमेशा अवसर होता है।" 

तिवारी ने 14 अगस्त को न्यायमूर्ति पी. बी. सावंत आयोग की रिपोर्ट का हवाला देते हुए कहा था कि अन्ना 'सिर से पावं' तक भ्रष्टाचार में डूबे हैं। उनके इस बयान की कांग्रेस में भी आलोचना हुई थी। यह था विवादित बयान हम किशन बाबू राव हजारे उर्फ अन्ना से पूछना चाहते हैं कि कि तुम किस मुंह से भ्रष्टाचार के खिलाफ अनशन की बात करते हो। ऊपर से नीचे तक तुम भ्रष्टाचार से लिप्त हो। अन्ना समर्थकों ने तिवारी तक अपना विरोध पहुंचाने का नया व हाइटेक फार्मूला ढूंढ लिया था। उन्होंने तिवारी पर फेसबुक व एसएमएस अटैक कर दिया और तिवारी पर माफी मांगने के लिए नैतिक दबाव बनाया। इंडिया अगेनस्ट करप्शन व युनाइटेड यूथ ऑर्गेनाइजेशन के सदस्यों ने फेसबुक पर बुधवार को 'मनीष तिवारी जी से सॉरी टू अन्ना एंड होल इंडिया' नाम से पेज बना दिया, जिस पर अन्ना हजारे के समर्थक अपने कमेंट दे रहे हैं।  आपकी राय

AAMIR TO VISIT RAMLILA MAIDAN IN SUPPORT OF ANNA HAZARE?

Aamir Khan to visit Ramlila Maidan on saturday

Believe Aamir Khan for doing extraordinary stuff both on reel and real life too. While one report has already suggested that the Bollywood superstar is believed to be the real brain behind Anna Hazare’s team’s decision to picket residences of the Cabinet ministers, another news has informed the world that Khan will be joining Anna at Ramlila Maidan on Saturday to support the movement he has initiated.



Remember that before any Bollywood star even thought of supporting Anna’s cause, Aamir Khan had expressed his support to the veteran social activist by writing a letter to him. He even requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to agree to Anna’s demand.



Anna Hazare’s fasting to get Jan Lokpal Bill implemented has already entered 11th day now. Aamir Khan, who has until now supported the movement from backdrop, is expected to come in front today by visiting the historic Ramlila Maidan. New Delhi:  Actor Aamir Khan arrived this afternoon at the Ramlila Maidan where Anna Hazare, 74, is on a hunger strike.  The actor said, "Anna has not eaten for 12 days...I am worried about you. In everyone's heart, there is concern for you.  This will be a long process, and we need Anna's leadership for our struggle.  So I urge him here to please end his fast today."



Mr Khan paid rich tribute to Anna and said he supports the anti-corruption Jan Lokpal Bill developed by Anna and his team, which is being debated today in parliament.



Mr Khan said,   "I want to hug Anna because he has awakened all of us.  This struggle against corruption - is all of ours. I have read Anna's Jan Lokpal bill.  I have also read the other version.  But Anna's bill is the one I support.  Obviously, only parliament can pass this bill.  So Anna has tried to ensure it is debated, passed  We have elected our MPs.  And right now, we are all watching them to see if they give us a tough anti-corruption bill.  We have to thank Anna for putting this bill and the issue of corruption in the spotlight.  We hope our MPs will not fail us, that they debate this extensively. "
